Where to park a camper minivan overnight in LA and San Diego?

I'm going to be doing a road trip later this month. I'm looking for suggestions on where to park a camper minivan overnight in LA and San Diego. I just need some spots to park it that are safe.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but a lot of campers use Walmart parking lots for a quick overnight stops. I haven't heard of anybody getting robbed in one so I guess they are safe.
