Re: Looking to buy REI Kingdom 8

The only way to reverse the heat-sink of a cot is to place open foam material between the bottom of the cot and the floor. If there's open space below you, it's the same as a hollow-tube air mattress: the air will wick heat from around it (you) until the cot, mattress, and you are the same temperature. Filling the space under a cot will replace the hollow space with millions of cells that make barriers to stop heat transfer. You can slow this with a LOT of insulating layers, but you're fighting negative R-values. It's a lot easier to start out right with a self-inflating sleeping pad. They are available in a variety of thicknesses, sizes, and qualities. If you really want to use a cot or an air mattress, invest in some Buddy or Wave heaters. Those giant queen-sized air mattress are not designed for or intended for outdoor camping. They are for inside you house when you have guests come over. The people who sell them for camping should be made to sleep on them on a cold night with just a sleeping bag. Any camping supply vendor worth his salt would never sell you these things for camping.
“People have such a love for the truth that when they happen to love something else, they want it to be the truth; and because they do not wish to be proven wrong, they refuse to be shown their mistake. And so, they end up hating the truth for the sake of the object which they have come to love instead of the truth.”

Tents usually go on sale this time of year (in the spring) and fall. But I found this - REI has a coupon out for 20% off any full price item - so you can use it to get your tent. http://bc25.com/coupon/20-coupon-code-rei-outlet/
