I just took a good look at the spikes in the bed of my truck. A little light rust on the points - that's it.

Theres one in a town I make it to once or twice a year.

Not too big of an issue since I already have a set I made up, and they haven't been any trouble just being bare steel. This thread made me think about painting them, but they really don't need it.

Somebody brought up in this or another similar thread how to remove the heavy duty stakes. I keep a Estwing long handed framing hammer in my truck, it will pull most stuff, with no worry about breaking it. I've kicked it as hard as I can to get spikes and stakes to pull.

I really don't get the whole idea of painting tent pegs. Maybe because I'm always dealing with the rocky soil, I can't imagine any paint - no matter how tough - putting up with the rocks over time.
