Re: Grownin Old Ain't Fer Sissys!

Got a CPAP Machine now. First had what they call a full face that covers the nose & mouth. But after a week I didn't like the full face and made arrangements for a different mask. That sleep study showed that I stop breathing for up to 46 sec. at the longest time, then resume. The sleep doc said that way of sleeping is not normal and if left unchecked could lead to a stroke, heart attack or death. Now I have what they call a pillow mask that rests against the base of the nose. I don't sleep with my mouth open but if I did then this "pillow" mask wouldn't work either. Now I'm thinking about going solar for tent camping, but for now it's just a thought. The Cpap blows a constant stream of air into the lungs and this keeps one breathing all night long. In the past when it's 2 AM here(Mtn Time) it's 4 AM on the east coast, that was when I was on CF the longest, but not so any longer. I'm also no longer tired during the day too. Able to get lots done. Just thought you might wanna know.....lol!

Glad to hear the C-Pap won't stop you from camping, reno! I know you live (in part) for your outdoor time.
Last week I sold my business and it's now official: 2 retired Old Farts living in the same house. 'Cept one of us is much older than the other......uh oh digressing:D. Gonna have a full physical next month and see what fresh hell the medicos have for me.

Aug 2 to Aug 14- adult trip to recover from kiddos' outing. Bring on the Campari!

RDF, yes I have used the trailer but no as much the past 2 years. Taking care of stuff that deemed itself to be more important.
With this spring like weather we are getting back on track and will be camping in a couple of weekends.
Glad to see you are feeling rested more during the day. sounds like you are making great progress.
I see where this last storm dumped a lot of snow out there in your neck of the woods. Does that mean you get spring twice this year?

Re: Grownin Old Ain't Fer Sissys!

I use a C-pap too. We just camp where there is electric. I am on a blood thinner (warfin). Had lung clots in 2003 and almost died. I have Factor 5 liden. Along with these blessings I am diabetic. I have to have my blood warfin level checked weekly. So camping presents some issues for us. Being a 100% disabled vet means I go to the VA for all my treatment. All these things limit our camping. My wife does most all the work when we go camping. I HATE seeing her pitch the tent, and take it down while I sit my but down and watch. I am on about 25 different meds. Had cancer too and a couple of other really bad things. My wife did not get the better deal in our marriage that's for sure.

While on our last camping trip it rained so hard we packed up and left. I should be honest and say she did all the work. I can see the only way for us to camp is now in a trailer, which we can't afford. I am really very discouraged. I am almost a home bound person, and it really hurts me and I am sure my wife is disappointed too.

What really makes me upset is what I gave for my country and the absolute jerk anti- Christ president we have who is destroying our America. Does anyone else feel like me? If it were not for being able to trout fish I would be really down.

Re: Grownin Old Ain't Fer Sissys!

Farout, I can commiserate with you. I had blood clots in the legs go to my lungs back in April 2012. Spent a week in hospital. I had always prided myself on NOT being on prescription drugs. Now I'm on three!
But I've improves, and my heart doc got me changed from Warfarin/Coumadin to the new Xarelto - no more dietary limitations, and more getting blood draws to check PT/INR levels. It's more expensive, but the trade-off is worth it to me.
The doc also had reduced my Cartia XT (for A-fib) from twice a day to once, and now has me off it. It had been causing swelling of my legs, so my legs are getting better now. I was switched to a free med (Lisinopril) for BP. I still take my Metformin twice daily for being borderline diabetic. I watch what I eat, and am basically off refined sugar, softdrinks, caffein, etc. Thanks Goodness I don't need to take insulin!

I started out on a big noisy air concentrator - but rarely used it because I really hate the danged nose tubes! Causes major irritation. Switched to a little plastic mask, but didn't like it either.
Now I am on a smaller auto C-PAP machine - much better! The mask is a bit cumbersome, but I got used to it and sleep more soundly. I still get up a time or two to hit the head, but can go six hours on a good night. I do wake every couple hours to roll over - like RDF I cannot sleep on my back, or in one position for too long - hate these aches and pains. But I now awaken better rested.
The little C-PAP can be powered by a 12 volt battery unit, so I can take it camping. I do have a deep cycle battery in a case to carry. Haven't camped in awhile though - need to rectify that. But I have been caring for my elderly Mom, as Dad passed away last April. Can't be away too long.
I am converting Dad's old Ford van into a camper, and will have provision for the C-PAP included in it.
I find health concerns as I age are making serious changes in my camping style! I used to be the minimalist motorcycle camping dude with bivy-tent, now going to a full-fledged camper. How things change......

Re: Grownin Old Ain't Fer Sissys!

Ah I had the sleep study done not long ago, I sleep fine just have a jerking leg when I sleep. My Doctor gave me a pill for that but I took my self off of it and later confirmed to come off by my Doctor. It had 2 effects on me, 1 good 1 bad. Better than any Viagra I taken but it made my heart beat much much faster. My sleeping habits is I sleep average 5 hours. If I go to bed at 9 I would be up for sure by 2AM SO I go to bed around midnight and I will wake around 5AM and if I am lucky I will not wake till 6 or 7.

But I am not a very healthy person, Fluid on the Brain, Arthritis from the Neck down, and I do not produce blood as I should. Also to boot in additional pain I get attacks of the Gout and Kidney stones. Gout if I over do my self it will flare up. I been having this problems since I was 34 years old, now 51. I was on 12 different drugs but now 1 unless Gout hits and then I taking 3.

So I can not walk far, but I get around. I do however feel I walk a few hundred miles a night by the feeling of my feet being in so much pain. If a day comes and I feel no pain, I am checking to see if I am alive, for if I have no pain means I am not normal. If it not a joint it my head hurting. But there not been a day that I been scare I was dead since I always having some sort of pain.
