Hi all,
Just had a daughter last year and wife and I took off from backpacking. Since I've been a bit out of the loop I thought why not hop onto a forum and ask what the best, greenest, wettest campsites were in California. We're a local Santa Barbara family and just want to get somewhere with a creek, water hole, lake, stream . . . something besides this desolate dry Santa Barbara hiking. I'm figuring overall range about 5 hours, so some of Sierra's are available and Kern, but heard lakes near Kern down to 10%. I know the drought is bad all over, but what's the best options. I've heard near Dinky Dome there's usually a nice big water hole that stays decently full year round and pretty fresh with rock jumps etc. Looking forward to some responses. I hope they all aren't bleak.
