Advice needed: tents only campground, Northern CA, on river or lake, off beaten path.

Hello. Looking to camp in June or August with family (maybe 8 or 10 adults and kids); no RVs or trailers, no crowds. Options for kids to get wet, maybe kayak or tubing; fishing a plus. Thinking about Lassen or other geothermal area; or else Sierra foothills on a river? or the high plateau around the Fall River. Four wheel drive roads are fine; forest service campgrounds or other non-state park preferred. Any advice?:confused::confused:

As soon as people start to post those locations, they are no longer off the beaten path. Get some good Forest Service maps and head out.
