  • North AL, NW GA camping?

Hello, new to this forum. Looking for a place to take my wife and 6yo daughter for their first tent camping experience. Would like to know if anyone could recommend a campground in the North Alabama, Northwest Georgia area. Would need to have somewhat modern bathing facilities and would like to have water access, either creek, small river or lake suitable for a canoe. Would like for their first camping experience to be comfortable and enjoyable so that they will want to go again some time. I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Take a look at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Georgia or the Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama. Lake Guntersville rents canoes. Both parks have camping with hot showers and bathrooms. I think Lake Guntersville is more geared to RV's than tents. You should call them and ask about tent camping. Cloudland has a gorge and hiking trails that are nice but only a creek that runs through the park. Lake Guntersville is sorta like a resort park with a golf course, pool, store and restaurant but it does have the lake you're looking for.

Just got back from Cloudland Canyon last week - there's no access to water for canoeing or whatever, but it's a nice campground with access to washers/dryers, etc.

Good for a first trip IMO.
