  • Lake Chinnabee Munford, AL

Cheaha SP is located south of Anniston, AL in the Talladega NF. It has the distinct honor of being the highest point in Alabama at 2,405 feet. There are three different campgrounds at the park and the first one we stayed at was so noisy that we left within minutes of arrival. There were several other campers there that were allowing their kids to run amuck on bicycles, skateboards and on foot. I can handle kids playing but when those same kids ride through your spot while you're trying to set things up is just unacceptable.

We went back up to the main site to speak to the campground host and he suggested we go down to Lake Chinnabee where there were usually a lot less people since there was no shower facility, playground, etc. so that's what we did and were we glad!

Lake Chinnabee was a short seven mile drive and was also right next to the entrance to Devil's Den hiking trail (a part of the Cinnabee Silent Trail) which was what we wanted to see anyways!

There are only eight sites at the campground and they will support RVs but as memory recalls there is no electricity, only water at each site and there is a restroom facility. Passing by a few of the sites was a small creek that lead down to the lake.

The lake itself did provide us with some fishing where we landed our fare share of some crappie that made for a nice dinner!

Our first night there was a Saturday and by Sunday afternoon we were the only campers there and we stayed through Wednesday at $8/night.

    Our first night.

    The rest of our stay.
