Looking for ideas and clarification on primitive camping in Maryland. There are many recommended “primitive” camp areas in the state forests, but not sure what “primitive” really means. Some websites describe it more as hiking in to the woods and finding an open space while others say it is an established campsite but without hookup, toilets and running water. I want to take my 7-year-old boy camping to a somewhat secluded wilderness area (not a big campground where the tents and RVs are right on top of each other), but not ready for a big hike into the woods. Appreciate clarification and suggestions on camping areas that would fit this bill within 2-3 hours of DC.
