  • Campgrounds: TENT ONLY!

    Howdy, TENT CAMPERS ONLY!!

This just might be our Holy Grail Quest! It might not yet be yours( it is mine however), if your like camping at a very nice campground and wake up the next morning and have noticed that over-night you've been surrounded by Large 5th Wheels and RVs you gotta move your campsite! Wow, those RVs are sure crowding this place! It's not that I don't like RVers it's because I don't like camping in the shadow of a luxury rolling tin box!

This sub-forum is reserved for campgrounds that are designed for TENT ONLY! If you know of a spot in your neck of the woods and would like share it...post it up. If not no problem because it will eventually be found and posted wether your want it posted or not. If you know of a campground that has RVs & tents but has a section set aside for tent only that also qualifies! I believe there are hundreds of these pristine sites all over this great land(sure we got some problems-and we are working on them); it's still a GREAT LAND! I am a tenter and this is my Holy Grail Quest!!

Long Live Tents; Longer Still Tenters!

This is simply a place to list TENT ONLY CAMPGROUNDS. If you have a question about a spot that is linked, please start a new thread. We prefer to keep this as a link thread. That will make it easier to find a Tent only spot.

I use to fear that if I gave away a great site and told no one about it, no one would find it. That's like running onto what you think is a ghost town that no one knows about, you're fooling yourself. I've come back to my secret ghost-town and it's got more people here than I thought! Thanks for looking-Get Campin'

        Ravensburg State Park, PA

        Howdy,

Here's a state park in PA that allows Tent Only Camping!

        Camping: tents-only, modern campsites
The forested campground is open from the first Friday in May through the last Sunday in September. Each of the 21 sites has a picnic table and a fire ring. This campground does not accept reservations. Pets are permitted.

        Directions:
Ravensburg State Park is in central Pennsylvania, Clinton County, on PA 880, eight miles southeast of Jersey Shore, or four miles north of Carroll, Exit 192 (old Exit 28) on I-80.

        Hi
The park was named for ravens that once roosted on the rock ledges at the southern end of the park. Ravens are still seen around the park and can be distinguished from crows because ravens are larger than crows and make a deeper, groan-like call.

The forest of Ravensburg State Park has undergone little change in the last 100 years. It is unlikely that extensive logging ever occurred in the area due to the steep, rocky terrain and the isolation of the area. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed Ravensburg State Park on state forest land. CCC Camp S-127 built picnic pavilions, latrines, waterlines, fountains, bridges, trails and a dam on Rauchtown Run.

Ravensburg State Park still has a pleasing rustic character due to the rugged land and the CCC era structures of native stone, rough-sawn logs and stained wood. Good Luck, thanks for looking!

          Penn-Roosevelt State Park, PA

          Howdy,
Here's another state park in PA that allows tent only camping!

          Camping: rustic sites, tents only
The 18 rustic campsites are for tents only. Some sites are walk-in for more privacy. Drinking water and non-flush toilets are available. Due to the isolated location, Penn-Roosevelt provides an excellent opportunity to get away from noise and electric lights. Park rangers routinely patrol the park and camping fees are paid through a self-registration/payment system. Please keep food and coolers in vehicles to protect them from wild animals. Pets are permitted on designated sites.

          Directions:

The park is easily reached from US 322, one-half mile east of Potters Mills (where US 322 changes from two to four lanes) turn south onto Crowfield Road (six miles to park). Or further east, turn south, (near the runaway truck ramp) onto Stone Creek Road (also six miles to park).
Penn-Roosevelt can also be reached from Greenwood Furnace State Park. Turn onto Broad Mountain Road at the park office. Follow the Penn-Roosevelt signs (12 miles to the park). Obtain a copy of the Rothrock State Forest Public Use Map from Greenwood Furnace State Park or the Bureau of Forestry office in Huntingdon. The roads to the park are not plowed in the winter!

          Wildlife:

Wildlife is abundant in the area. The alert observer may see white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey and many species of small game. Due to the small acreage, Penn-Roosevelt State Park is closed to hunting. However, the surrounding Rothrock State Forest is open to hunting. The camping area makes an excellent base for a fall hunting trip. Feeding wild animals such as bears, raccoons and skunks is prohibited. When wildlife loses its fear of people, dangerous situations can result. Good luck. Thanks for looking! If you have camped here and would like to chat, just start a new thread, thanks!

              New Jersey

              Howdy,

Atlantic County Park at Lake Lenape Campground, Mays Landing, NJ. is tent only. The introduction states that RVers need not apply. And if you're a tenter you can understand why...a tent has no sound barrier. Even quiet running generators can sound like a 747 airliner at times.

18 campsites, drive in. info still being researched. 12-1-09.

                NH: Connecticut Lakes State Forest

                Howdy,

                Connecticut Lakes State Forest
                Route 3
                Pittsburg, NH
                Phone: 603-538-6965

Visitors will enjoy fishing, hunting, boating, paddling, and hiking. In the winter, there are cross-country ski trails available. This state forest includes the Deer Mountain Campground operated by the New Hampshire Division of Parks and REcreation. Deer Mountain Campground is just five minutes south of the Canadian border and 13 miles from Lake Francis. It is adjacent to the stretch of Route 3 north of Pittsburg, referred to as Moose Alley, which makes it a prime location for moose viewing. The 25-site primitive campground includes 22 sites available by reservation only, and three for first-come/first-served campers. Each site has a fireplace, picnic table, flat area for a tent, and a parking space. The campground is open for reservable stays from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend. First-come/first-served camping with limited facilities is available starting in mid-May, 2009, weather permitting. Information: www.nhdfl.org or www.nhstateparks.org/
