  • Campgrounds: TENT ONLY!

    Howdy, TENT CAMPERS ONLY!!

This just might be our Holy Grail Quest! It might not yet be yours( it is mine however), if your like camping at a very nice campground and wake up the next morning and have noticed that over-night you've been surrounded by Large 5th Wheels and RVs you gotta move your campsite! Wow, those RVs are sure crowding this place! It's not that I don't like RVers it's because I don't like camping in the shadow of a luxury rolling tin box!

This sub-forum is reserved for campgrounds that are designed for TENT ONLY! If you know of a spot in your neck of the woods and would like share it...post it up. If not no problem because it will eventually be found and posted wether your want it posted or not. If you know of a campground that has RVs & tents but has a section set aside for tent only that also qualifies! I believe there are hundreds of these pristine sites all over this great land(sure we got some problems-and we are working on them); it's still a GREAT LAND! I am a tenter and this is my Holy Grail Quest!!

Long Live Tents; Longer Still Tenters!

This is simply a place to list TENT ONLY CAMPGROUNDS. If you have a question about a spot that is linked, please start a new thread. We prefer to keep this as a link thread. That will make it easier to find a Tent only spot.

I use to fear that if I gave away a great site and told no one about it, no one would find it. That's like running onto what you think is a ghost town that no one knows about, you're fooling yourself. I've come back to my secret ghost-town and it's got more people here than I thought! Thanks for looking-Get Campin'

    Kansas: Millford State Park

    Howdy,

    Location/Address:
    3612 State Park Rd.
    Milford, KS 66514
    County/Counties: Geary
    GPS: N39 06.241' W96 53.682'

Located near Junction City on the shores of the state's largest lake, 16,000-acre Milford Reservoir, Milford State Park is a favorite getaway for outdoors loving visitors. Park facilities include modern campgrounds, shower buildings, toilets, swimming beaches, boat ramps, picnic shelters, a full-service marina, and a multi-purpose trails system. The park also houses a large yacht club.
Nearby Milford Nature Center and Milford Fish Hatchery offer a variety of interpretive exhibits and displays.
The park comprises 7 campgrounds with 141 electric and water hook-ups. Fifty-one of these sites include sewer hook-ups. 108 primitive campsites are available throughout the park. Cabin rentals are also available.
Firewood is available and on sale by Milford Friends Group members. Shower buildings are available at Woodland Hills, Cedar Point, Walnut Grove, and Prairie View Campgrounds.
The state park is a popular destination for anglers eager to experience the excellent fishing available in Milford Reservoir. Walleye concentrate along the face of the dam in early April to spawn, then move to the flats at Farnum Creek and mud points near School Creek. Nearly all of the brushy and rocky coves contain crappie and largemouth b**** but coves in the Rolling Hills and Curtis Creek areas are traditional hot spots for crappie. White bass and catfish are plentiful in a variety of locations, and smallmouth bass frequent the face of the dam, as well as rocky points in the lower half of the lake.
Many game species are present on the 18,800-acre Milford Wildlife Area, and a permanent 1,100-acre wildlife refuge has been established on the northern end of the reservoir for waterfowl management.

Many if not most Texas State Parks have tent only areas.

The Wichita Mountains National Wildlife refuge has a tent only area in the Doris Campground. This place is a real gem in SW Oklahoma.

Don't forget that most Forest Service and BLM lands are open to "dispersed camping", so just about anywhere off road is a tent-only site

            Texas

            Howdy,
            Located near Fredericksburg...
1,643-acre Enchanted Rock State Natural Area draws countless visitors to its distinctive 500-foot-high dome of pink granite, the second largest such formation in North America. Designated a National Natural Landmark, Enchanted Rock is an impressive geological feature with an estimated age of one billion years, making it among the oldest exposed rock in North America. Coupled with its impressive geologic history, Enchanted Rock also has an extensive archaeological history; the site figures prominently in several Indian legends.
Visitors to Enchanted Rock enjoy numerous activities, including hiking, backpacking, technical and rock climbing, primitive camping, picnicking, birding, geological study, stargazing and nature study. Facilities include a group picnic area and pavilion. Recreational vehicles (RVs) and pop-up trailers are not permitted to camp in the park. All campsites are primitive, accessible via either a short walk or a backpacking hike.

            Location

What attracted us here was no generator use. We pitched our site so that their view was blocked! We usually don't wave at folks we don't know anyway and we didn't!

            Group Camping
The Cottonwood Campground has one group camp site that is available only by advance reservation. Maximum occupancy for this group campsite is 25 persons. Minimum capacity is 9 persons. This group campground is walk-in tent camping only. Vehicle parking is restricted to an adjacent parking area.
