What's up with membership?

Anyone have any ideas of how to grow this forum? It's been up for over two years now and still only 150+ members. Please give me some feedback as to why you think this hasn't grown. Do I need to add topics? Typeface to large to read? What are your thoughts? Help.

maybe u could add it to more jeep sites. thats how i found it.it was on bigoffroad. going to get me a set of leafs from him as soon as i work a little overtime.lol u know jeepin campin kind of goes together. just my 2 cents

Ideals

OK, I joined this site last year with the hopes of meeting others who enjoyed camping and maybe find a few new spots to camp.Like you I cant understand how you can have all these members (150+) and so little activity on the boards.As far as ideals for the site I would like to suggest a way to search member list by state.This would give members the chance to connect with people from their area. If you have the space maybe a photo section.I really like the site and hope to see it grow. GOOD LUCK !!!!

change post bit.

change the colors, try something with the season. maybe even a number of color styles depending on where you are. it is not winter in america at the same time as it is in austrailia. you need a couple styles so people can choose that kind of thing. play with that idea a little.

try a CMPS that can post alot of information is a little space. vbadvanced, mk portal .... alot of options here.


buttons, change the buttons to want to make people to post. the standard buttons are a little vague as to what they do and are not all that "flashy".


Have people post content in a forum such as a howto: or Reveiw: or a News: type format.

Install an arcade? there are a number of yeti games i bet you could make work?

World map, vB.org has a map you can use to post member locations? that might work for you?

membership thought

to bring this up to date why not send out a message to all the old members and let them know you are back up and see what response that generates.
I have noticed on other forums( popup times ) little activity and that might be due to time of year. Activity should pick up as these spring storms leave us and the temps pick up.

You might also link up with dealers web sites where popups are sold.
you might also add a topic for TV's. (Minivans,Pickups,Suvs,Sedans,Jeeps) as owners get seriously involved in them

Well I just made a post that seemed to disappear. Hopefully that's a glitch and not a feature.

Also, it would appear that you have some of the board options (sigs, for example) disabled. Users like sig files. I had planned posting pictures/links to my tent/dogs/equipment, etc.

I moderate another board running the same software with over 60k members. You really have to build the community. Once it's there, folks will get hooked.

Actually it's just the opposite. You guys really don't want to read the first few un-moderated posts by a new memeber. 50% of the new threads and about 25% of post replies have to do with Male Enhancement or Porn.

So DEATH would be having a forum full of that junk. Everything has it's place, that stuff just does not belong in a CampingForum.

Once you graduate to the next user level (it's real soon) you'll have sig and free posting access.

I agree - some security is needed - I have seen other forums killed by SPAM.
Actually, this is the most active camping forum I have found so far, and the best software. Some are really anacronistic, and hard to navigate. This forum is much better.
And, we have nifty T-shirts!!

I know this is an old thread but my Custom Magnum forum makes flyers. When a person upgrades membership they receive a bundle of flyers to pass out with their screen name on it for referral. The flyers are not just paper, they are card-like and very nice.

I know it would take some money to make them, but it may bring people in. Gotta get the word out! We enjoy handing them out to people during conversations or placing one (respectfully) on a Magnum we see in a parking lot.

If you made some up, I would be happy to pass them around town!

Ever think about having events/meetups? Personally, for me, there's only so much I can say about camping. haha! I like to share my camping via my photos and I like to see others photos as well. Maybe a photocontest would get some more movement?? How are we advertising??

"reno"desertfox had the idea of cards a few years ago and I thought it was a great one. I like the idea of adding a certain level to it. I tossed it about in my head that it might be a bad thing if they end up littering a campground.

I have always offered members free stickers.

Maybe I need to make a FaceBook page for fans of the this site. Ok I did

I've been mentioning this forum to friends and co-workers, but many are older folks and just not into the 'online forum' thing. I'll keep plugging the site though!
