  • Setting up wet Kodak tent

I have a 10x10 deluxe Kodiak tent which I love. One problem. Several times had to break camp in the rain. I pack up a very wet canvas tent and then several hours latter put up in my backyard to dry. If the canvas is wet, I am unable to to tension the poles on top of the tent. I have to let the canvas dry a bit before I can put the tent up. Once, I had to wait 30 hours for it to stop raining before I could even put the tent up. Emailed Kodiak and no reply. Anybody else have this problem and is there a fix? It’s discomforting to know that once wet I would be unable to move the tent to a second site and put up.

Yep its one of the biggest inconveniences of tents (canvas or nylon); they have to be dry before storing ; or you run the risk of mildew.
All of the tents that I have used over the years have had this problem as well as tending to stretch when wet...
the good comes with the bad, attached, unfortunately.

For one tent I eventually started inflating it with a blower, like a bouncy castle (kid toy); to get it to dry (definitely looked strange and still it took a long time to dry).

    Enjoy!

Ground tents work best for me, so far.
Experience along with properly set up 4WD will get you to & through places (on existing, approved 4WD trails) that 4WD, alone, can't get to.

Hi, I also have a flex bar type tent. I love the spaced and ventilation. Hate having to drop tent in the rain. I take the damp tent and hang upside down in my garage. By the stake loops, c clamped to the joists. I have a dehumidifier from when we lived in a house. Place it inside the tent, run a hose outside thru the door. Turn it on for 36- 48 hours. Dry tent! I'll always take a canvas tent. I have a beautiful fly from Springbar that keeps most of the tent covered.
      enjoy the day
