  • Tent fpr new BSA scout

Hey all looking for a good tent recommendation for a new BSA scout. Would like something that is not bulky or heavy but also something that has its own footprint that is matched to it. I thought I saw a line but cant remember what it was but it had its own footprint but also had its own internal floor liner that could be installed or removed when needed.

    Welcome! to camping forums...
Afraid I can't help you much..I mostly Jeep camp.

My smallest tent is a 9x9 Eureka dome; its really two heavy to backpack far.
I gave up on fitted footprints and just use a heavy silver tarp.

Hopefully someone else will be along soon with more applicable advice.

    Enjoy!
2006 Jeep Rubicon, TJ; 4.11 gears, 31" tires, 4:1 transfer case, lockers in both axles
For DD & "civilized" camping; 2003 Ford explorer sport, 4wd; ARB & torsen diffs, 4.10 gears, 32" MTs.
Ground tents work best for me, so far.
Experience along with properly set up 4WD will get you to & through places (on existing, approved 4WD trails) that 4WD, alone, can't get to.

Alps Mountaineering makes well built tents that are kind of aimed at the scouting market. They are heavier than full on backpacking tents but that provides some extra durability for rough/not so careful use. They sell footprints for their tents but don't think liners. Note that for all brands # of occupants is inflated. So, for ex, if he's sharing with a friend a 3 person may be a better fit than a 2 person. We have an Alps Zephyr which is a pretty good tent. Good luck.

My favorite tent is our Mountainsmith Morrison 2. It is 92”x56”x 43” H. It is light weight and there is a foot print available.
