Re: Buying a tent with no flame retardant chemicals

I thought I'd chime in and say that I saw prop65 warning on Ozark Trail tents and they specifically said it was TCEP: https://saferchemicals.org/get-the-f...tdcp-and-tcep/

Many other tents don't say what chemicals. In my opinion you are a fool to not consider/be concerned with the long-term effects of all toxins in your environment. The effect is cumulative and even if you tried to avoid the ones you can like toxic tents, you are still going to get plenty of exposure. Sure some of the websites are tree-hugging/green-leaning sources which are likely to think this way. But how about REI?

IMHO the big issue with tents is duration of exposure and most sites talk about this. Using a tent once a year is a lot different than living in one. For that reason I think it would be important to look at cabin tents and larger tents where long term use is more probable.

I contacted Cura since they have the cool loj tent and their rep Tarah responded: "Thank you for your email and interest in Crua Outdoors. All of our tents are fire retardant and are treated."

Kodiak Canvas Tent Rep Shalynn replied: "Thank you for your interest in Kodiak canvas tents! We do not use flame retardants on any of our tents. Let us know if you have any other questions."

I also noticed the following at Diamond Brand Tents and did not have to ask: https://www.diamondbrandgear.com/4850-2/
