I'm watching the video on this one: http://www.outwell.com/en/Products/T...gton6Tent.aspx
And you know what? You know what makes me HAPPY? They are actually being REALISTIC about the occupancy. If this tent were sold in the US, they would claim it's a 20 person tent. But no, they are saying six people can sleep in the BACK THIRD of this tent. Because the middle room is the "living room", and the front porch is a front porch.

Finally. Someone who is honest about occupancy. Because I have an REI Kingdom 6 and I know darn good and well it's a 2-3 person tent.

Oh and it's Denmark. DKK. So the two I've looked at are $1300-1900 USD. I thought it was GBP at first which made it $16,000 =O

I don't see how you could get 6 individual sleeping bags in the back third - that double bag was wall to wall on all four sides.

From what I've seen from online reviews, Hilleberg makes top notch tents. For the money they're asking, they'd better be! I keep looking at the Akto and the Unna but can't bring myself to drop $520 or $620 on a solo tent. The Unna is especially a tease for me. I like that it's actually about a person and a half size but, again, $620? I don't think so!

I don't see how you can fit 6 adults into my REI kingdom 6, either....

And I have been thinking of just using a tarp this summer.

Heh, KQ! That is exactly what I plan to do. A $6 blue tarp, at that! Why set up a tent when you don't need one?

McGuyver, Hilleberg obviously makes great tents. This might be worthwhile investment if you could catch a model clearance or factory seconds, if the price was right. But it would have to be 60% off to get me to bite.

Even with money laying around, I don't know if I can myself to spend that much money on a tent.

Some Glamping option I found on this side of the pond http://www.weatherport.com/fabric_building/glamping-2/

Everything is more expensive with Glamping.

                      Re: Insanely expensive tents

Expensive is relative. Hang out with the very wealthy and you will find that a $1,600 tent or a $16,000 means nothing to some folks. I am not talking about the 1%, just the very wealthy. Of course, they will only use the tent once and it won't be at a public campground, so if you do your dumpster diving on the right day, you can really score.

I was with a wealthy family that had someone else completely outfit them for a four day camping experience. All of the equipment was absolutely top of the line. I didn't recognize a lot of the brands, but I could tell it was quality. The seller went to the gorgeous manicured private lakeside wooded property where the camping was to be done and set the whole camp up for them in advance. They had chefs who came to camp and prepared meals for us. Professional fishing guides escorted us to fly fishing. When the family was done, they just got in the car and left the place - gear and all. I thought "jeeze, they could have rented", but the thought of using "used" equipment was grotesque to them, naturally. The only person who seemed to have any thought to money was the father/husband who secretly confided to me that it he was saving a lot of money rather than going to Europe for vacation. He did have a point.

                        Re: Insanely expensive tents

I recently bought a Hilleberg Unna - haven't used it yet, and wonder if I should have gotten a Hilleberg Rogen. The Unna is 4-season, not as much ventilation as the Rogen.

Since I don't plan on camping in snowy places, I wonder if I should return the Unna for a Rogen.

                        Anyone have experience with both?

                        - Tim

I'm with you guys on the Hilleberg tents. I suppose one could justify it if you were young and you knew you were going to have it for 20 years. I mean, the quality is obvious. But with the way outdoor gear seems to improve in regard to the types of materials used, designs, etc., it would be difficult to justify $600+ for a tent.

                            Re: Insanely expensive tents

At even a model-year clearance 30% discount, a 4-man 4-season could be justified. But with current high-end models off the internet at twice that discount, it doesn't make a lot of sense. I've gotten 25 years out of Sierra Design's best 4-person 3-season models, $500 tents I paid $340 for at closeout. That leaves me over $300 for stoves, sleeping pads and bags, and other gear...
