  • Vintage Winchester Trail Blazer Canvas Tent?

So I found this for sale locally and I was wondering if you anyone has any info on it. I can't find a scrap of information on that make, whether they are decent tents or not. Seller says its in excellent shape and is asking $100.

Long time backpacker, looking for some 'luxurious' car camping gear this season. I have a infatuation with canvas tents. So I'm thinking of jumping on this, assuming it's not covered in mildew or has damage. Figuring if the stitching is in good shape, a little waterproofing and I could have a nice little tent.

    Thoughts?

Looks like it took a few days to process your first post through the screening system. Hang in there, it will get better soon.

Like you say, if it looks like its in decent condition, it should be functional. I really enjoy having standing space in a tent, and room to be out of the weather if need be. Having a tarp to put over the top will help keep hard rains from misting through, protect it from the sun, and help it last longer. It will be cooler in the summer also. Having the over-tarp go out past the front also gives more covered space from sun and weather.

Check it for dry rot, the fabric can look OK, but be weakened from age and sun exposure. Once it gets to that point, its not practical to try to use or salvage. If it hasnt been in the sun much, it may be fine. I'd want to see it set up and mess with the fabric in the sides and roof to be sure they dont tear easily. My wall tent is 25 years old and has no issues with dry rot or integrity, though it is high grade marine type canvas.

I dont know much about the price/market of old style family camping type tents, so cant be of assistance in that regard.

I own a mid 70's Coleman and early 80's Hillary(Sears) canvas tent. Both still going strong. You may just need to hose that one down good to restore water repellency. I had to do my Coleman that way. Had a couple of small leaks but once it got soaked it's been good to go since.
