I had two Energizer headlamps. They aren't that fragile. What I had problems with are the switches. Having to cycle through all the settings to shut 'em off seemed to wear 'em out.

I (like James) am an electrician. So they come off the hardhats onto concrete. That's a 6' fall onto concrete. But we are getting away from a camping application.

Yeah, I have never owned one long enough for the switch to wear out. Usually between falling and the sweat they last long enough for me to change the batteries a couple times at best before they need replacing. Thats why I always go cheep.
