Newcomer here, hoping for some help with a small dilemma.
I need a tent to be used as a long-term shelter in the desert for the family (long story). Now, we're all used to roughing it, but I'd like to have at least 200 sqft of space, with 100 sqft of head room for a 6' person (two of us are around 6') for those days when we're unfortunately trapped inside. So far, the only tent I've found that meets these needs is a 24' diameter, 9' tall geodesic dome.
Now, if I'm going to spend a decent chunk of money on my tent-shelter, I'd like to be able to actually use it for camping later in life, and I'm concerned this 24' will be too big for most campsites (and a giant eyesore). Also, the next size down is a 16' which concerns me as far as height goes.
Has anyone ever used a tent this size when camping? Would something like this even fit in most campsites? Alternatively, does anyone know of a tent that could stand up to harsh desert conditions and offer the space I am looking for?
