  • Stake Upgrade for Kodiak Flex-Bow Tent?

    Hi all,

I'm looking for an upgrade to the stakes that come with the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow tent. I was camping in Valley Springs, California, and the stakes were hard to get into the ground, even with a mallet. 2 of them I couldn't really get in, although I might have hit rock, and I bent one trying to get it in with my boot. For now at least, I'll be camping around northern California.

So I'm looking for what the best stake upgrade would be. Labman had the idea to use an impact driver: http://www.campingforums.com/forum/s...ll=1#post13768 That sounds interesting.

Let me know, what you think, thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion on that. I did see their website when I was browsing around here yesterday.

Can anybody else comment on the Monk Industries stakes, or have another suggestion? I'd like to get a second opinion before purchasing. They do look very similar to the Kodiak stakes, but I'm guessing they're better.

    Thanks!

They use them for setting up bounce houses. I picked up a few at a military surplus store. He can ship them cheaper if you call them directly.

Cool, thanks. Looks like we have the same tent. So you like them a lot better than the ones the Kodiak ships with?

Also, did you get the "hook style 12 inch" ones?

I have the 12" tent pins. I like them better than the hooks, cause they have a flat head to hit them with a hammer. I live in Colorado and there is a reason they call them the "Rocky Mountains" It seems like every time I drive them in I hit a rock. They haven't bent, so that is good.

I just went and read the impact driver post. Seems he was going to use long lag bolts as tent stakes. He hasn't posted much on here, so I don't know how they worked out. For the money, the monk industries stake is nice. I would be interested in the shipped price for you. How many you buy and how much shipping is. If you tell him Camping Forums sent you, I think you get a 10% discount. He also sells them on ebay, so you can check that out to.

I have a 10’ by 10’ flex bow tent. The stakes that came with it are junk. I purchased a dozen of the Monk 12” stakes on Ebay. A buddy of mine purchased another dozen which I split with him, I need 18 to setup the 10’/10’. Monk is able to ship them in a USPS flat rate box for way less than it would cost by UPS or any other shipping method. The stakes are well made and you will never need to replace them unless you misplace them. You will need a 5 lb. hammer to drive them into the ground. Knee pads also come in handy when driving the stakes in place.

Thanks for that suggestion. I guess I'll go ahead and get some.

Do you remember how many stakes total the 10x14 Kodiak comes with, including the 2 for the awning lines? I'm at work right now, but I'd like to go ahead and order the stakes today if I can.

I'll ask Monk Industries what the cheapest shipping option is, and if I can get the camping forums 10% discount. I'll let you know what the total is.

              Thanks!

18 is the correct count. that include the awning

I placed an order today. They'll refund me some of the shipping money, and send them in a USPS flat rate box. The total was: $58.68.

                    Thanks again for the suggestions!

Hello guys and thanks for using Monk Stakes!

We are shipping stakes out to BreakAes today. I recommended our 12" forged head tent stakes. These.... http://monkindustries.com/index.php?cPath=33

All of our 12" stakes are made from alloy steel and then heat treated (hardened). This is the same process we apply to our 12" Military Stakes. The military designed these stakes to be used in frozen soil conditions. They are probably the toughest tent stake available anywhere. Just to be clear...our 12" Forged Head Military Stakes and our regular 12" Forged Head Stakes are both hardened. Our hook style stakes are not and our 18" and 24" stakes are not. These other stakes are all made from high quality American made steel, but they are not hardened like the 12" Forged Head Stakes.

Another note, we can ship 12" stakes in USPS Flat Rate Boxes and save you a ton of money on shipping. You have to call or email for this option. Only the 12" stakes will fit in Flat Rate Boxes. The 18" and 24" stakes must ship UPS.

Also, our 10% off deal is just for folks who have never ordered from us before. This is just to entice you to give our stakes a try. You can ask for the discount when you call in or just enter Coupon Code 55641 when ordering directly from our website. Remember this code will only work on your very first order with us.
