  • Is Coleman the only brand with hinged doors?

I'm having trouble finding the perfect tent for my family. I really like the hinged door feature that Coleman offers but it seems like all their hinged door models aren't tall enough for my 6'4" husband. Do any other brands have that feature? A bonus would be a screened area or even an awning.

Our current tent is an almost 10 year old Swiss Gear 8-10 person tent that has finally bit the dust.

My list of wants in order of preference:
    #1- at least 80"
#2- in the $2-250 range (not oppossed to used)
#3- screened in area or awning
    #4- hinged door
#5- sleeps at least 8 (OR, if the price is right we could go down to sleeping 6 and get the kids their own tent).

    Givens: good protection from rain/wind

We usually camp 2 long weekends a year plus a week long trip. All at state park campgrounds (so far!). Family of 4: 2 elementary aged kids and one dog (Catahoula mix who is a puppy now and we're not sure exactly how big he'll get). We all sleep on cots so an 8 person tents needs to fit those plus room for a couple of totes and walking room.

    Any suggestions?

Based specifically on your preferences, with preference to the hinged screen door, this tent might fit your bill:

I would be remiss in not saying I don't like hinged doors since if nothing else they tend to cause the younger users to forget to keep the interior bug free yet this isn't about my preferences.

Never used this tent; didn't vet the fabric specs however do note the average review ratings are in the middle on Amazon; nobody hates it completely or loves it to pieces. And there aren't a lot of reviews either.

Doesn't have a built in screen room.
    2017:

July 3 to July 16- annual kiddo trip
Aug 2 to Aug 14- adult trip to recover from kiddos' outing. Bring on the Campari!

thanks for the suggestion! I had actually looked at that Coleman Weathermaster and it is a contender. I showed my DH the Kodiak tents but it wasn't sold on the price.

I came across this one: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...14966.19446426

I like that it looks like the fly has pretty good coverage and has an awning. Any input on the brand?

I picked up a Coleman Hampton tent at a Coleman outlet store sale for $159 about a year ago. I liked it because it was tall enough for me to stand up straight in. It is not a super bulletproof tent, however it works for how we camp a few times a year. I will say that the three times i pitched it. the hinged doors do not always work like they do in the store on a level floor. You need to spend some time with your lines straightening up your wall to have them work O.K. I put a tarp over my tent like a canopy to prevent me from having to pack up a wet tent and give some sun, bird droppings, and sap protection, so I can't speak for it's water protection. This big tarp gives me a covered area next to the tent to store stuff out of the rain also.
