Both of our opinions are legitimate, and so is yours and Frank6160's and everyone else's.

I'm not the forum owner so I can't say "this forum really isn't about proving someone right or wrong" but I can definitely say that it shouldn't be about that. I view this forum as a place where tent campers can get together and discuss all aspects of tent camping, share experiences, offer opinions/advice (even conflicting versions), and then let people make/form their own better informed choices/opinions. But again, that's just my opinion on this forum, so...we're back full circle...haha.

By the way, I love your style of tent! That might be my next one just for ease of setup and weatherability.
My sentiments exactly. This and any forum should be about helping others with information to make decisions on equipment that will fit thier style of camping not that my way or equipment is better than the other guys. Godd luck with your decision and Happy Camping!!!!

Same for me....well, except my Altoids tin is a little bigger than yours and is more commonly referred to as a "minivan".

Internetpilot and I will be here all night!

Ventilation in most full fly backpacking tents - Depending on the level of ventilation you need, there are two options. One is to open up the door on each side allowing air to pass very well through the tent. Two, the zipper for each door also zips downward and then place a stick between the zipper sides horizontally to hold the gap open.

When it stops raining here in Virginia Beach, I'll set my tent up and take some pictures for a visual.

First camp out down. We have another next weekend. My son and I bunked together without the rain fly. Excellent ventilation and no problems with this trip. Our Scouts did a service project building a butterfly garden at a State Park. We had fantastic weather, good nature trails, did some fishing and knocked out a good service project.

(another Scout leader uses another Coleman in this pic)

The next two are the canoeing trips where the tent will probably get abused more than this weekend. I'll continue to update.

I had a Coleman Rolling meadows 10x8 6-person that held up beautifully in the rain, only 2 drops made it in, from the zipper.
However on its second outing, one of the poles snapped and it was returned.
No more Coleman tents for me.
                    Eureka all the way!!

I'm also a Coleman Sundome fan and a minivan camper. My tent is a bit larger than yours, a 10 x 10, but is very easy to put up. In fact, the first time I put it up in the field was in the dark and I was able to do it in about 10 minutes by myself. I and my son have used it the past two summers on long road trips through Utah, Oregon, and California. Can't report on rain, as we've always been dry. Closest to rain has been fog on the California coast, but even then it was only a bit damp. Inside was perfectly dry. It probably helps that if the rain fly is on properly, it comes down to below the mesh window level. I also put a tarp underneath, which helps when folding up the tent as the tarp provides a barrier from the damp ground and dirt/sand. I just fold up the tarp afterward and put it into a plastic shopping bag for transit. I did buy a set of better tent pegs I've been very impressed with that I found out about from this forum, along with how to use those pesky guy lines on the rainfly, which helps a lot with ventilation by pulling out the sides. I love the space inside it and the fact I can stand up straight (I am over 6') in the center of the tent. One thing I would like to see are a couple more loops for hanging things from, instead of just the one for a lantern.
