  • Re: Eagle Lake Campground, CA

Man...I wish I could contribute information to this thread, but instead I come seeking answers.

I live in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area of Texas. I am about two hours fresh from the silliest camping trip of my life...,

I camped in what the state of Texas calls a campground. It was more or less a gravel-paved cul-du-sac with a manicured lawn and a nice little tidy parking area for RVs, a pre-fabricated fire pit with a cooking grate, complete with a male/ female bathroom in the center. I just more or less paid good money to camp in a freakin' RV park.

So I go home and hop on the internet to try and find a real campground-and by that I mean...
*I do not want to see an RV....for miles.
*I do not want to see a road, other than perhaps a very thin dirt path that a 4 wheel drive vehicle might have a slim chance of negotiating-....for miles.
*I want to have to park my truck, grab my pack, and carry everything I need to camp...for miles.

Perhaps I am not entering the right "key words" into my google search...but I am troubled that I cannot find a remote camping site in Texas. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Howdy txlongshotb4....first of all welcome to one of the best camping forums on the internet! Secondly, I moved your post to the tent camping section because you'll get more visibility here in this section and probably get a lot more campateers to sound-off and post up suggestions to help you arrive at the kind of camping you want to do. Here are a few of my suggestions.

Yes, you need to enter the proper keywords...such as "dispersed camping Texas" or "free camping Texas." Remember, any campground that requires advanced reservations over the internet or by telephone is probably an organized site where you will run into RVs, trailers and pop-ups. From your query I'm getting the impression that these campgrounds are not what you have in mind.

To give you a push check out these websites:

    Good luck!
Hey, when you get back from your next campout, you might want to give everyone a trip report! Your intro question was a good read! If ya got anymore questions, ask away!
