As you are finding out, the area around Truckee is almost beyond beautiful. But, again, beautiful is not limited in that area to just isolated spots like Truckee.
On the other hand, some day, take picnic drive on the old highway on the other side of Truckee, up by the RR track, and marvel at those views! OMG! Lots and lots of Kodak Moments up on that drive.
