That sounds really cool.
We do a lot of boating and fishing around here. I grew up along the Mississippi River. I lived about 15 miles from an oxbow lake off the Mississippi River. I spent many a weekend at the lake in the summer.The Mosquitos from the MS Delta can stand flat footed and breed turkeys. They are plentiful after dark in the late spring and summer. Off is your new best friend.

Understand mosquitos. In Ontario they and the black fly are rivals to become the provincial bird.
