  • Back Packing /Fishing In The Ansel Adams Wilderness

Over the 4th of July weekend, I took off with a friend and back packed in the Ansel Adams Wilderness near Yosemite. It was absolutely beautiful!

We caught a lot of fish. I carried all dehydrated food that my lovely wife spent weeks making for me. The southern Sierra Nevada Mountains are a lovely.

Our lunch and dinner. Fresh trout tastes so good!

We were out for 6 days. Most days we hiked 4-12 miles. Our hardest day was climbing two 11,000 foot passes back to back. The raft weighed about 6 pounds including the oars. I did not carry the raft as I had more food and cooking gear. This was one of the most beautiful areas that I have ever back packed into. The high alpine lakes and meadows were out of this world. We made a short trek into Yosemite as the that is the way the trail went. The area was so remote that large mountain lakes were not named.

I like to eat gourmet when I go on camping trips. Since I brought my own dehydrated and dried food, it was easy to eat good.

Morning breakfast-Chia pudding with dried mangoes, raisins, and coconuts flakes.

My hiking shoes. I wore these barefoot. Felt sooo good!

Your boat was a creative solution to accessing the lakes. Catch any golden trout out there? Do fish by wading without the boat?
The Sierra have the best weather for backpacking of any major mountain range in N Amer.
I used to pack mules out of Mammoth and got into some really remote country. Wonderful memories like yours.
