What fantastic photos! I was also wondering about the effects, what camera were you using and did you modify them at all afterwards? (I am also hoping it is not photoshop!) I think it could definitely be a job/hobby for your retirement. I am hoping to do a photography course with a school near me that I found on Groupon, I am not so good though, but I am really interested in landscape and Ive started taking my camera out with me a bit on easier hikes.

Maybe someone has already asked this because I havent read the whole thread, but what was your route? Some of the landscapes look breathtaking. I am hoping to do a longer camping trip in march since I have 2 weeks off, so I am now researching location ideas. Any help would be appreciated!

The key of rich color for landscape photography is a good CPL Filter, do not use the common gl**** I am using B+W CPL, once you try it you will see how different a CPL filter can make...

For my camera and lenses, most of the shoot are using Canon 5D Mark II, EF 17-40mm lens for wide angle shoot, EF 50mm f1.4 for night / low light shoot, and 135mm f2.0 for portarit and zoom shoot... Thats for the normal color, the other strange color are come out from Canon 450D that already modified for infrared shot (try google infrared photography) :p

Thank you for sharing pictures of a wonderful part of the world. You have a beautiful family as well. The news is peppered with so many negative images of the middle-east. It's nice to see the other 99% of what is out there, for a change.
