Got back this morning from 5 day "rain" adventure on Oregon coast. Weather forecast was for ok weather last Wed-Sat, then rain and storms Sun-Wed. That said, we were going backpacking on a section or two of the Oregon Coast Trail for 3-4 days, then decide what to do when the rain hit.
Left Wed. Arrived at trailhead to start backpacking in Newport. First night in camp the skies opened up and the wind machines were on "blast". It was difficult keeping our tents from launching. Weather wasn't good at all Friday for walking on the beaches, so we hung er up and headed back to the van.
We refer to the "spots" we find to camp on Nat Forest or BLM land, usually 4+ miles off an asphalt road of some kind, as our "Hilton" hotel. We found some nice "Hilton" hotels to set up camp at. WE had really nice views from tops of canyons, buttes, etc.- when the clouds cleared and/or it wasn't raining.
Only had one picture of a camp, and that is at the Hilton at Middleton, Or - as seen in the first image.
The second image is on the Oregon Coast Trail. Lots of tropical flora and fauna, along with salamanders, and other tropical critters to step on.
Those waves, near Bandon, Or, I think, were close to 8' tall in that storm. Awesome power to watch.
Go Ducks!
