Nice pics-thanks for the share. Love the Great Horned Owl baby pics. Saw an adult about a month ago hanging out in a tree in our backyard. Really impressive birds.

2017:
July 3 to July 16- annual kiddo trip
Aug 2 to Aug 14- adult trip to recover from kiddos' outing. Bring on the Campari!
Thanks all !! The photos were taken with a Canon EOS Rebel SL1. We were experimenting with a couple different telephoto lenses. Only had the camera for 5 months now, so we're still in the learning process. Happy camping everyone !!
I have Canon also (well, three - Rebel XT with IR, 40D and 50D) and have pretty much completed my lens lineup: Tokina 11-16mm f2.8; Tamron 17-50mm f2.8; Tamron 28-75mm f2.8; Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 VC; Tamron 200-500m f5-6.3; and a $25 plastic Holga lens (basically a pinhole lens). I mostly use the 28-75mm on the Rebel XT. I love the Tokina - it's great to be able to get so wide with the crop sensor for landscapes.
I started with a Rebel XT (non-IR) and the Canon 18-55mm kit lens and the cheap Canon 75-300mm lens. Promised myself I wouldn't rush into new lenses and then have a bunch of duplicate ranges and/or gear I didn't use.
I've held to that promise. I only got the 17-50mm when my kit lens broke and I was without that range. I bought the 70-200mm when I THOUGHT I had broken the 75-300mm - it was a week before I was going to a wildlife park and I needed that range, so I bought the Tamron. Then I looked at the Canon again and realized it was working properly. So now the Canon sits unused - it's my only unused lens. I do love having the f2.8 range all the way through - especially for the wide angles.
As for Canon vs. 3rd party - for me, I have been extremely happy with the Tokina and Tamrons. I've used Canon L lenses and they are great, but the cost meant that I couldn't buy as quickly as I could the 3rd party. IMHO, I'd rather be out getting the shots with the Tamron 200=500mm, than going out and not getting the shot because I hadn't saved enough to buy the Canon L 400mm. None of my 3rd party lenses have been a dud.
Yep - photography is a major love of mine.
