  • Mod's Update

If anyone stays in-active for a period over 12 - 18 months, the system's wizard is set up to auto ban or block that user from the forum. The only re-course is to ask whom ever becomes in-active to re-register with a different user name & password. There is no way for JohnJohn(the forum admin) to re-instate someone who becomes banned. There are NO records kept of who is banned and who is not. Please stay active.

    Re: Mod's Update

Back from dirt camping up in the area of Monte Cristo/Mount Baldy area of NE Utah! Will be around the rest of today(Sun. 8/26/12 till Tuesday, 1:00 PM 8-28-12). Then we are off to another full week of kayak camping up into the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Will return late PM of Sept 3rd or 4th! Thanks to everyone for being patient while I'm out tent camping! Hey, I gotta practice my skills to keep myself active as your moderator.(heehee) This past trip, I tested tent stakes for Monk Industries! Quality product 100%; Tested two campfire pokers from North Ridge Designs and let me tell you not only can you push & pull a wood log fully engulfed in flame with ease you can also stab a lazy squirrel if you're quick enough! Best darn fire pokers I ever did test. Also tested the twin burner/camp oven for Camp Chef. Also tested a few new cast iron pans & tools for Lodge Cast Iron Cookware and PahaQue's 10x12 family tent. And I'm not quite done testing all of this equipment. That's why we are leaving again for fly fishing, kayak camping! Then during the month of September I'll be writing reviews of the gear. Once again thanks to everyone who just joined and are in the moderation period. The best advice I can give is to just tell you to get your moderation period over as quickly as you can.

        Re: Mod's Update

Just wanted to take a moment and publicly thank Hogsnapper for bringing to my attention another spammer that had pulled the wool over my eyes! After further investigation, he/she was a spammer. Sorry to let everyone down when this person had 11 posts to one thread working. That person has been banned along with all replies that any one answered. I will be more diligent. Thanks!

          Re: Mod's Update

Did you know that any registered forum member(campateer) can go to the community page tab and check out another member's page; see how many friends they have made; invite them to be your friend; look at the photo albums that they have made of their camping exploits and even comment on those photos. These little tidbits are know to some but others think that all we do here is chat about camping! This forum isn't as fancy as facebook but meaningful info is usually passed around and shared. We do learn from one another and every campout is just practice for the next one. In the coming days, I shall expand on what is available and creative within the confines of this great forum! And what makes this a great forum, it is it's membership! Thanks for looking!

            Public Profiles:

What is the Public Profile Page?
Every member has a publicly viewable profile page. This page includes information provided by the member, either during the registration process or later on via the User Control Panel.
There are a number of ways to view a member's profile. Whenever you see a member's name, clicking on it will usually take you to view their profile page.
The members list allows you to browse all registered members, and quickly click through to public profiles.
When logged in, you can also view your own public profile by logging into the forums and clicking on your username shown in the header at the top of the page.
You can also go straight to a profile if you know the username of the member by typing in the following into your web browser: http://www.example.com/member.php?username=<username of the member>
What's on the Public Profile Page?
The public profile lists information about the member under the 'About Me' tab. It also includes statistical information, such as the number of posts they have made and their registration date. This information is shown under the 'Statistics' tab.
Other information includes a list of Friends (?), their profile picture (if set by the member), and a list of members who have recently visited the profile page.
A list of the members' albums (?) and Group (?) memberships are also shown.
            What are Visitor Messages?
Visitor messages are publicly viewable messages posted on member profile pages. To post a message, click on the 'Visitor messages' tab, and use the form at the top of the section. You will only be able to use certain formatting in these messages, as described underneath the edit box. This message will be viewable by all visitors to this profile, including guest users and search engine robots if the administrator has allowed this. To communicate privately with a member, send a Private Message instead.
Visitor messages can be edited or deleted by site moderators or the member who owns the profile. If you see a visitor message that is not appropriate, you can alert the moderators by clicking on the 'Report' link. The 'View Conversation' link allows you to view all visitor messages between the member and the owner of the profile.

                    Re: Mod's Update

Just wanna let every honest Campateer here know that for the time being until I'm proven wrong that there may be a spammer for Coleman Tents amongst us(this is the first time this has ever happened). This future positive Campateer's first post contained a link. I thought and reviewed the link as legit & approved. The second post had the same link, therefore I sent message to stop. 3rd & 4th post attempts were deleted cuz, the same link appeared in each of those posts. He/she hasn't been banned just warned not to post the same link again. If it re-occurs he/she will be banned. Just so ya know.

For everyone's info the difference between a blogger and a spammer is this:

A blogger: Usually they have a website/blog-site that contains a store where the blogger enlists individuals to join their blog by paying a subscription service and/or have a store where they sell tee-shirts, hats and may have set up arrangements as a drop shipper. CampingForums is a 100% free service to the general population world-wide. There is no fee to join this forum. This forum also has preferred vendors who have first become regular members(Campateers), have applied and paid a small fee to advertise their camping website products here. They are the only legitimate vendors CampingForums support. All others are banned. Or placed in the unapproved vendor section at the discretion of a moderator or forum admin.

A Spammer is anyone that attempts to post a link to a porn site, tennis shoes, children's clothes, religious locations/bibles/beeds, etc, handbags for women, interior designers for homes, any link that has absolutely nothing to do with camping.

If the registered Campateer proves to be just a spammer during the mod period they are usually found out or reported and then are banned. Sometimes they appear legit and eventfully proven to be spammers(one individual has 32 threads or posts before the truth became known. They are also advised to apply for an Approved Vendors License. Most end up as spammers and are banned, but a few honest unapproved vendors do become Preferred Vendors.

There has been only one registered Campateer who was banned accidentally during the tenure of your current moderator. The moderator offered to re-instate this Campateer's original username but that was refused. That's okay, he's still very active under a different username. The mod has personally apologized to him and all is good!

Remember the best way to support this site beside purchasing a t-shirt is to purchase items from our approved vendors!!!

Approved vendors go through a lengthy process to advertise on CampingForums but at the same time the fee paid to become a preferred vendor is slight in the grand scheme of advertising!

Thank you very much for all concerned inquiries and especially reports of suspected offenders!!! There is always a WATCH DOG ON DUTY! Like it or not he ain't goin nowhere but here! And he is human who makes a mistake every once in awhile. Every honest Campateer probably knows more than this moderator about campin, but your moderator ain't here to chat camping he's the cop, the fuzz, the pig - the police! This is a great forum and your moderator strives everyday to keep it so!

Howdy Campateers, this is just a reminder and a great many Campateers always check the entire front board, but for those that don't scroll past our small backpacking topics there is a whole list of areas of these United States & the world below the Backpacker's Section! It's always a good idea to help you're fellow American when you see a question from your neck of the woods! That section called "Where To Go." Thanks for looking! Lend your chat when you can!
