Thought I would brag on my grandson Ethan. This is his fourth year counting
birds in the spring. April 23, 2010 5:00 pm to April 24, 2010 5:00 pm
Faith Christian Academy students C.J. Armour, Ethan Hatchett, and Daven Hayes won first place among all middle schoolers in the Georgia Youth Birding Competition. Together, they make up the "Chaotic Kestrels" team. They are all in Mrs. Lisa Adkins' sixth grade class. The students met at Faith Christian Academy.
Despite the weather, the Kestrels located and identified 100 species of birds of the 200 that are currently in Georgia. 5 p.m. Friday found the Kestrels at Jekyll Island, Georgia as the competition began. They continued through to 5 p.m. Saturday with the final tally and awards banquet at the Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center in Mansfield, Georgia. This is Hatchett's fourth year competing and Armour and Heyes' second year. Last year, they placed third in the state among all elementary students. All plan to compete again next year.
