  • Bear & tent camping question?

    Ok here's the question.

I want to camp out near the woods on my brothers property, Since he has a dear, fox, turkey trail right next to the woods were I would like to camp, but I've also heard about bear in the woods specially with the cherries and what not.

What would be the best way to protect my self if I don't own a gun or never shot a gun?

I am assuming you are talking about black bears.
Your normal camp sounds should keep wildlife away from you. but I would keep a very clean camp and at night keep everything, especially food, up off the ground or stored in a truck away from curious noses. There are sprays you can use to keep aggressive animals away from you but care must be used in deploying them so you are not affected.
You might discuss this with other people who camp in that general area to see what precautions they take.

      Howdy,
Look, here are a couple of web links that should help you. Bears are normally nocturnal(coming out at night). What jpurdy said about keeping food stored away properly is a very good defense plan. Your food storage should be using air-tight containers such as "loc-n-loc" and then place those in your car. Garbage should also be stowed away in the proper cans nightly if you camp in an organized campground.
