Newbies!

Hello from Alabama!! I found this site while researching family camping. I've camped before but my wife and kids haven't. We're starting this spring! I'm pumped! I'm not going to ask the tent/sleeping bag/cookware/ questions, I'm sure ya'll get tired of those.

I would like to hear your recommendations for car camping campsites in the southeast. I've done some searching myself, but like to hear first hand accounts. We are starting out by going to Elkmont Campground outside of Gatlinburg. If you have any experience with this campground, I'd like to hear it. If you've got a recommendation that you think would be better in the same general area, I'm all ears!!

Most state parks, and Army Corps of Engineers parks, are good for family outings where the wife and kids aren't into going native. What part of Alabama are you from?
