I think the Duraflame Stix and similar things light easier if you break them in half or otherwise rough up one end a bit. Of course, then you get more of the smell on your hands.
I'm not sure Davy Crockett would approve, but there's always the old standby: battery powered inflatable mattress pump to do the work of blowing on the embers to get the fire going!
Nice camp chair. One hand to to hold the fan, one hand to hold the camp whiskey. Roughin' it, for sure...
