  • Suggestions for propane heaters/fridges

I am contemplating buying a Honda Element. It is possible to get it fitted after-market with a pop-up camper. It goes on top of the roof with access through the moon-roof. (I have gotten too old for tents.)

The problem for me is heat. Obviously, I cannot run the car heater all night. My experience with small portable propane heaters has not been good. I have tried two catalytic heaters. Both were worthless. Any suggestions?

Any clever ideas for small propane or 12 volt fridges that might work?

    Thanks.

I have never seen any retro fits for that vehicle.

That is truly going to depend on how much weight the roof of the Element can hold.

If you go to Thule.com it will walk your through the rack building process. In the end it should give you the weight the rack can hold.

If you think it will hold it there are plenty of roof/rack set-ups. I don't think you use your own tent though.

Post up here what you find.

Actually, there is an aftermarket popup, see ursaminorvehicles.com. The roof can handle it. My problem is heat and possible refridegeration.

Interesting option, JPurdy, though I think I prefer Ursaminor because of the from inside the vehicle access. The other ones are too heavy to take on and off often and make the car taller than the Ursaminor.

Any suggestions for heat and fridges?

            hey diver,
check out these heaters. they are catalytic, but the big one has a fan that blows the heat in. oh yah, all of these have low oxygen switch to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, and a tip over switch. the first two can be hooked up to a 20 lb tank. I have the smallest one and love it. Might get the biggest one for larger areas
