I don't know if it is waterproof or not. but Big Lots sells canvas painter's tarps for what I think is a good price. I often look to re purpose things. This may be a good source for you. You may also ask at a funeral home. They may have awning shelters that have faded and do not want to use any longer. Good luck.

      thanks,
painters drop cloth wont work, as they arent treated,
for what i intend do want it treated waterproof and mildew treated

rolls of treated canvas am looking at $300-$400 worth,
if i go with getting 15'x20' sheets probably close to $300 worth but less seams to contend with

I didn't try awning companies, but did try marine canvas companies and got the cold shoulder,
I decided to go with full tarps, 10 oz cotton canvas, water/mildew treated,
          About $300 worth.
My next obstacle is rope, I wanted to use, made in us natural fiber rope.
And to my surprise there is none.
Even looking at making my own rope now. That is an option I am considering now

CANVAS: Have you looked at any of the "Do it Yourself" tent component companies? I haven't made my own tent, but some of my friends have. They bought the materials and plans as a kit. Seems like a lot more work than necessary, but I do that too sometimes. FYI, the canvas you found online for $6.00 to $9.00 is not a bad price. If you plan to waterproof the canvas, that is going to be where you will spend most of your money. (PS, don't even think about using the old gasoline and paraffin waterproofing -like the old circus tents- that is like sitting inside a box of tinder).

ROPE: You can make your own rope pretty easily. I think everybody should learn how to make their own rope just to understand the process.

You can get baler twine at most farm supply stores. You can also make your own rope making equipment with wood scraps and less than 30 minutes labor. OR, for not a lot of money, you can probably buy a used or antique rope making tool. It's all about the twist.
