Camping with pellet rifles

Anybody else enjoy SAFELY plinking inanimate targets around the campsite?

We usually do most of our camping out on the fire/logging roads here in BC (British Columbia). It's free, and we strive for no trace as much as we can (look for existing sites, instead of carving out a new one).

I mention this because I've been perusing the forum, and I understand that a good number of you use "official" campsites (and I understand... it's nice to have hookups), and I imagine anything even resembling a firearm would be seriously frowned upon in a public-packed "campground".

I don't usually bring my pellet rifle when I camp. Poor thing just sits around gathering dust lately! I do bring my .25 when I camp alone just for my own protection no matter where I'm at, but shhhh.....don't tell anybody =)

I am gonna start taking my 5 year old's bb gun with us when they lift the stage 2 fire restrictions. She is learning to shoot and handle firearms. I usually take a few bigger guns with me such as 22's, 44's and some shotguns. Depends on where we are going and the plans we have. If we are in a campground, I don't take guns for shooting, but when we are dispersed there are firearms.

Hey there, bikepacker! I like your name and your thread, since I'm a fan of cycling and air guns! I haven't yet took my pellet guns camping yet, but probably will bring my .22 gas ram break barrel sometime when I camp down by the river. Just be sure to check with your laws beforehand and find out what permits/licenses you need to carry if need be. I'll definitely be small game hunting with a couple different air rifles this fall. Can't wait until I get a .25 Benjamin Marauder pcp

If you’re thinking about hunting with a pellet gun, there are a few guidelines to follow to make sure you do it effectively and humanely. Choosing the right gun, ammo, scope, and using best practices are all important factors.

And always, make sure of what is downrange past the target! BB's and pellets can riccochet too.
Here in my AO, pellet guns aren't legal for squirrel during hunting season, even though the better guns do have the power.
