  • awning/tarp pole mod

You know the aluminum extension poles you get for rigging up tarps, shelters etc?....

Well, if you get the same ones I have, they come with a small bolt with a round knobby head to tighten the pole sections in position.

    see here.....

Well, first thing you do......take that stupid round black "screw" out!
Take it to the hardware store, and match up the threads (usually fine thread)
with either a hex head bolt, or if you can find one, a wingscrew.
With a hex head bolt, find a small flat piece of steel and solder it onto the top of the hex...thus making your own wingscrew.

    see here....

You always want stuff to work properly when camping...no nipping out to the garage to cut and file and make something up.

Just my 2 cents worth anyways......15 days and counting!!!!!!!!

Good idea! I am all the time modding stuff - like putting a much bigger 'cargo deck' on my bike, with eye-bolts on the corners to bungee stuff on with. A lot easier to carry a decent amount of camping gear!

I love the 'hardware drawers' at Home Depot and Lowes - a LOT of great stuff in there!
Longtime Motorcycle Camper. Getting away from it all on two wheels!
