    1. Name: Moonshine (sorry don't use my full name on the threads)

    2. Age: 25

    3. Gender: Male

    4. Would you consider yourself a: Casual camper? Hobbyist? Sportsman (hunter/fisherman)? Enthusiast? Professional?
    Hunter/Fisherman Professional

    5. What do you carry for a day’s hike? Overnight?
The bare minimum I feel is needed.

    6. How much does your gear weigh?
Full pack for a 4 day trip is about 60 lbs. with all the comforts. 35 lbs with the
    bare minimum.

    7. How often do you look up camping related information?
    Almost everyday...I'm on here aren't I?

    8. Have you ever panicked in the wilderness? (What happened?)
One of the most important rules when faced with a stressful/volatile situation in
the wilderness is never to panic. It leads to confusion, disorientation, and in
groups of people it can escalate the situation much quicker, and even create more problems. To answer your question when I was 12 I encountered a Black Bear
and her 3 cubs while fishing a glacial lake in Gunnison National Forest in Colorado.
Although we were separated by the body of water I began to panic and
frantically tried to think of a way to stay safe. My chosen course of
action...This dummy decided to take a swim in the 36 degree drink. After the
mama and her cubs quenched their thirst they meandered on not caring about
me. Needless to say I panicked and ended up almost hypothermic. Thank God for
dad getting a fire going as soon as he got back from flyfishing the stream.

    9. On average, how much do you spend on camping gear?
    Yearly average maybe 150-200 dollars.

    10. What do you look for in purchasing new camping gear? What is the deciding factor in making a purchase?
Quality craftsmanship, American Made, I will never purchase anything that has just come out and not been proven or tested by field staff.

    11. How do you prepare before venturing out into the wild?
Triple check my survival pack, inform more than one trusted individual of my
expected return date, Make sure my clothing/boots are in good condition, and
I always leave with a full pack bladder of drinking water.

    12. Where do you research/purchase camping products?
Local sporting goods stores i.e. Scheels, Cabelas, Sports Authority, and
Canfield's. Sometimes I will check out the outfitters around towns of my
    destination as well.

    13. How much would you spend on a swiss army knife?
0$. Swiss army knives are what I would get from my grandpa for a christmas
gift when I was in the boy scouts. Big boys need real knives/multi tools.

    14. Do you carry a swiss army knife (what brand?)?
Read above statement. I carry a Gerber pocket knife in my survival pack.

    15. What size swiss army knife/multi tool do you carry?
I have 2 pocket size Leatherman multi tools (The Freestyle, and the Juice S2), and 3 full size Leatherman multi tools (The Wave, The Charge AL, and the Knifeless Fuse)

    16. How do you carry it (ie, keychain? Pocket?)?
Full Size on my belt, and Pocket Size in my Survival Pack

    17. How often do you use a swiss army knife?
Only if I decide I want to whittle while I'm bored.

    18. What features are indispensable?
tweezers, flint, file, and of course the multi tool pliers always come in handy.

    19. What is the maximum weight of a swiss army knife you are willing to carry?

Assuming I carried a swiss army knife I would have to say 9.6 ozs...equal to the weight
of the heaviest Leatherman I have ever carried.

      2. Age: 65

      3. Gender: M

      4. Would you consider yourself a: Casual camper? Hobbyist? Sportsman (hunter/fisherman)? Enthusiast? Professional? Serious Ultrilight backpacker

      5. What do you carry for a day’s hike? Overnight?
WARM WEATHER: (2-10 nights): Tent, sleeping bag or bivy sack, 1" thick inflatable mattress and cell foam mattress, synthetic rubber bowl, spork, 2 pr socks, 1 pr hiking shoes, 1 pr. camp shoes, 1 pr zipper leg pants, 2 synthetic T shirts, 2 pr boxer shorts, gps, compas, camera, map, scarf, hat, basic first aid kit (meds, needle, thread, duct tape, razer blade, etc), Leatherman Wave, tiny led flashlight, matches, breathable water proof hooded shell and pants, bunting jacket

      6. How much does your gear weigh? Less food: 10-12 pounds

      7. How often do you look up camping related information? 2-4 times a week.

      8. Have you ever panicked in the wilderness? (What happened?) Have I ever been in trouble in the wilderness? Yes. Part of the wilderness experience is to recognize there will be challenges, face them, and learn form the experience. So far I have had the foresight to not get into situations where I "panic". I backpack in the wilderness so that I can prepare myself for the next backpacking trek in the wilderness.

      9. On average, how much do you spend on camping gear? Hard to tell. I am not frivolous at all. I recognize the potential danger of backpacking alone so I make sure my equipment will perform as I expect it to perform. I have several sites I surf on the net to look for the best price for what I am looking for.

      10. What do you look for in purchasing new camping gear? What is the deciding factor in making a purchase? Will the item do what I want/expect it to do when I am 3-4 days away from "civilization"?

      11. How do you prepare before venturing out into the wild? Print out my list of gear, lay out that gear on the floor, go over the list to make sure I have the gear, pack it.........

      12. Where do you research/purchase camping products? I have several sites I use which offer quality merchandise at reasonable prices.

      13. How much would you spend on a swiss army knife? No need for one. My Leatherman Wave (as heavy as it is) is the baby I carry on me.

      14. Do you carry a swiss army knife (what brand?)? No

      15. What size swiss army knife/multi tool do you carry? Leatherman Wave

      16. How do you carry it (ie, keychain? Pocket?)? Leather sheath, attached to my person.

      17. How often do you use a swiss army knife? Depends............

      18. What features are indispensable? "Multi-tool" aspect. I can fix/repair almost anything.

      19. What is the maximum weight of a swiss army knife you are willing to carry? If Leatherman made a Wave out of Titanium, I would buy it. The Wave is very heavy, but I trust it in the wilderness.
      Hope that helps you out.
