Alright I'll throw this out here. For years growing up I thought my mom had this super secret chili recipe. A few years ago I was over at her house while she was concocting this super secret recipe. Turns out, its store bought, well at least the ingredients are store bought. Even after tasting it, I'd still swear she mixed all those spices by hand. Anyway here is JohnJohn’s Mom's famous chili recipe:
    • 2 cans of hot Roytel Tomatoes
    • 1 large can of Chili beans (in sauce)
    • 1 lb of browned ground beef
    • 1 large can of stewed tomatoes
    • 2 chili seasoning packs from your local grocery store (seriously)
    • 1 can of tomato sauce
    • 21oz of water

Place it in a pot on the stove and cook until your desired thickness and texture. We serve it over Fritos Corn Chips with lots of Cheddar cheese.

    Howdy JohnJohn,

That sounds soooooo good! We will give it a try on our next extended trip to Arizona coming up next month. Did I ever tell you I love to camp and cook?

It does sound good! I make 'store-bought chili' too - I'm partial to Hormel Turkey Chili - it's not too hot. Then I 'doctor' it up much like your Mom did.
I have a cookbook I picked up - "A Man, A Can and a Plan!" - gives me some great ideas on simple cooking.
Being a life-long batchelor, I cook up a big pot of something, eat a bowl then freeze the rest in small containers - a weekend of cooking sets me for the week!

Mmmmmm, mmmmmmmm! I do love to cook chili - that's pretty much how I cook it, too (plus a couple cloves of garlic, sometimes individual seasonings instead of chili mix). Here's a super easy way to take your chili camping: freeze it in crock-pot liners. The liners are impervious to heat, so when it's time for a hot camping meal, just pop one of your frozen meals (still in the liner) into some boiling water.

Best of all (next to a nice hot meal, of course) there's no clean-up!

          Howdy Scrib,

Crock-pot liners, well that never occured to me and it sounds very convincing. We always freeze stuff in loc-n-locs but your way sounds a better and takes up less room. We shall give crock-pot liners a try! Thanks for the idea! See that is what this forum is all about...sharing ideas or how to do things better with less hassle! Excellent information!
