  • Food Camping Checklist

    Howdy,
Here is one of our food camping checklists. It's ready for printing. We or I should say vegasdesertrose does most of the food prep work, she loves to cook more than I, it's one of our favorite things to do while camping. One of the first things that will help anyone to become a better organized camper is to start a checklist. A checklist is very time consuming, but we believe it's essential to take the time to make one and use it to ensure nothing is forgotten. Thanks for looking. If you have a checklist and want to share great, the more the merrier.

What a great list! I suggested that a few friends come camping with me in April and was happily surprised when 7 people decided to tag along. So in addition to playing tour guide, I'll also be the resident cook. This list seems to lay out the foundation for most anything I'll cook.

One question...what's your experience with washing your cooking supplies? Do you do it camp side or seek out bathroom or washroom facilities if they're available?

 On the trail: Squeaky, my wilderness companion dog, is designated "pre-wash" of bowl, pans, ect. Then, rub them out/down with somewhat coarse dirt a couple of times, rinse with filtered water........

Howdy darren, sorry not to answer so soon, been busy. What we do is have two collapsible wash containers that we picked up at Sportsman Warehouse and we'll heat a large pan of water and pour that in at campsite and add cold water so we can handle some heat(wear rubber gloves). The other wash basin is for another hot water rinse. Then when lay out a towel and air dry the plates, pans, utensils, and whatever. Or we'll take another towel and dry these items off and put them away in their storage bags. It takes team work, that's all. I wash and my bride dries. If your are at an organized campground it is frowned upon if you rinse you food containers at the public water spigot. We have both witnessed other campers brushing their teeth and even taking a sponge bath at these spigots. It's enough to make a person sick! When we are done drying everything off then we hang the towels to dry on a rope line that I've strung between trees or what-have-you. The wash water is then poured out and into another empty 5 gallon water jug that I have marked "Used Water" and "Do Not Drink" and "Poison" and "Do Not touch"! When we get home or at a dumpstation for RVs I'll dump the used water there. I have seen people just pour their used water on a tree or plant and that isn't acting responsible! It's the same with human waste, I'll cart it home if I have too and we take a portable potty with us that we keep alongside in our tent so we don't have to use the public restrooms. It's a nice touch and makes my bride very happy! Thanks darrenrogers for askin! Get campin!

I like list. Mine is pretty extensive too.

I usually do all he cooking when we camp.

My friends always laugh about my cooking and say "they eat better camping than they do at home".

How many people can say they put on weight while camping.

The Dutch Oven Chow Hall. The only thing missing is the dinner bell.

          Thx,
          Dan
