internal vs external frame backpacks

In the 1990s, I thought we had seen the death of the external frame packs. Internal frame packs took over.

Now, I am seeing more and more external frame pack offerings.

Designs have improved so much for both, especially suspension systems and other features.

Considering all the improvements on both external and internal frame packs, what are your recommendations?

External or internal frame packs? Why?

Considering I've been out of the backpacking game for quite a while, I haven't really looked at the new external versions. But my first pack was a yard sale external (brand unknown) and the one thing I missed when I went to an internal was the loss of a frame to tie "extras" to. Having to sew lash points to a pack never seemed like something I wanted to do, so I had to adapt to whatever my pack had available.
