  • Backpacking long distance

I am a survivalist, and I have never had to backpack long distance. I have a bug-out bag and so do each of my family members.
My question is, how heavy is too heavy?
I am 5'8'' and 155lbs and my bag is over 70 pounds. This does not include my weapons and BP vest. What is a realistic distance I can travel in a day? I'm 24, and in pretty decent shape. This may seem like a silly question but it's pretty serious to me. I don't want to overload myself but I want to be able to carry the food, ammo and the supplies I need.

    Re: Backpacking long distance

From what I've read on a survivalist forum that I like to use, the general guideline is 25% of your body weight for your BOB. I just bought an Alice Pack today that I plan on using for my bag.
May you always have love to share,
    Health to spare
    ,
    And friends that care.

If you plan on backpacking with family/friends, carry what you comfortably can and still not be the slowest person. The idea of using 25% of bodyweight is fine, but use it as a baseline and adjust it from there.
