Hi, I'm planning my first ever camping trip.. I want to be away from RV's, stores, and basically all other people.. All of the campgrounds I find seem to have electricity, pools, etc which is not what I'm interested in.
I would like a camp site that is wooded/hidden, somewhat close to water, with very little amenities (water pump, outhouse, fire pit and tent mat are all I'm looking for). I am coming from MA and the only places I've found that look secluded and quiet are far north, Acadia and such. Can anyone recommend a place that sounds like this, as far south as possible? My ideal geographic situation would be in the woods near fresh water, as opposed to near the beaches. If I have to drive farther north then I will, a 6+ hour drive for a few days camping just seems excessive!
I realize that my question is very broad and has probably been asked before; I'm just very interested in Maine's natural beauty, and have no idea where to start! Thanks so much
