  • National Parks - New Policy

I recently booked reservations for Lassen NP for next spring. New this time, is a restriction on modifying the reservation for 15 days. I hear it is for all national parks.

By the time you can modify the reservation, the full time frame of your original reservation becomes available.

So, say you want to book a site for the 4th of July weekend (July 1-5).

Before this change, you could go in on Dec 17 and book a reservation with a starting date of June 17 and book through the night of June 30 (14 day max). Then on Dec 22, you could go in and modify your reservation for June 22 - July 5. At any point after Jan 1, you can modify it again for just July 1-5. The system, by allowing modifications immediately, allowed you to "secure" a campsite before your desired dates and allowed you to makes changes before that site becomes available for new reservations.

Now, with the restriction, you cannot make modifications within the 14 day max reservation period, so you lose that advantage to game the system.

To me, this seems a good thing. Hopefully folks won't find another way to game it.
