  • Just over the fire..

When I go camping in the spring, somewhere in Wisconsin or Minnesota most likely, I'm almost certainly not going to be bringing along a backpacker's stove or anything like that...so I'm looking for "over the fire" only recipes. I'll most likely have a light pot to boil water in, and then a small pan for meats.

So far I read hobo pies, zip-lock omelettes, and JohnJohn's chili, and those sound awesome, but are there any smaller over the fire recipes that require less supplies? I'll probably have grilled cheese or something along those lines, but aside from rice that is my only idea.

Also, what's the best way to prepare food over a fire? What do you use to suspend a pot or pan over the fire?

P.S. JohnJohn, I'd like to try out your chili, but a much smaller portion for ease of cooking. Should I just halve everything in your recipe?
