interested in camping this year @ michaeux primitive sites accessible by vehicle. picked up "best camping sites in pennsylvania" book. author only listed 4 sites. know there has to be more. since I am from Maryland, this whole dispersed concept is new to me. We have primitive sites in state forests which are designated, but nothing like, "well just drive around and pull over if it looks good and is not too close to water". Should i just drive up there one day and just pick the rangers brain or does anyone have any insight to this dispersed alternative. Thanks for any input

Re: Michaeux state forest sites
You can look at websites like freecamping.com.
In my opinion, taking a day trip out and talking to rangers is thw best. Have a map and pen handy and let them know what you are interested in (e.g., fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, wildflowers, scebic views, etc.).
I have heard that there are far fewer places to disperse camp in the northeast than out west. And add to that, most folks prefer to keep their favorite spots private, so it can be difficult to find them.
When you talk to the rangers, ask them what the specific rules are for that area so you can then use maps, satellite imagery, etc., to find new potential locations. Then, when you go to a spot you know, you can go check out new places for another trip.“One could not be a successful scientist without realizing that, in contrast to the popular conception supported by newspapers and mothers of scientists, a goodly number of scientists are not only narrow-minded and dull, but also just stupid.” - James D. Watson
