Back around the great depression a company manufactured a manually cycled ammonia absorption unit that was powered by a kerosene stove. No electricity needed. You had to monitor it and know when to switch it around. Crosley Icy Ball is the name and doing some web research found a few skilled welders have built their own versions. No one makes anything like this for sale that I can find, probably due to dangers if improperly heated or dealing with ammonia.
