+1 on the Coleman lantern, but... What is a Lumin Aid?

Someone took the headlamp and milk jug trick and went hi-tech with it.

Current favorite and hopefully for all time given the cost (I've had it for about 4 years now so knock on wood):

            http://snowpeak.com/collections/ligh...iant=671176085

I use it for camping and at home plugged into my laptop(it has a USB port). Perfect light for playing card games and backgammon w/ no problems distinguishing suites or colours.

My current go to is the Bell & Howell. It has 2 removable panels that can be used as flashlights (light at the end) or panels (light along the side). Lights up really nicely and you can set it up to light only two sides or all four. http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Howell-La...tern=undefined

Basically an inflatable solar rechargeable light, with numerous brightness settings. It puts out a surprising amount of light for a good amount of time, and folds into the size not much bigger than a credit card.

Coleman lanterns here !! If we're dispersed camping I usually set 2 of them up. If in a campground I just set 1 up.

I went LED w solar. Company called Suaoki sells some cool light that charge via usb or solar and also are capble of providing power to your phone. One looks like a hockey puck but expands to a small impressive lantern, another is tri sided....they are nice. I also got a cpl of the jnflatable solar lights

                          Re: Light

I usually prefer the campfire; it provides a genial light with little glare and much better ambiance than any mantle lantern, IMO.

We carry LED flashlights/headlamps, with rechargeable NiMh batteries, to light our way.
If a way is needed to find the tent without a flashlight I use a couple of inexpensive LED solar garden lights out front.
If the tent or cooler areas needs light (rarely), I use a glare free, 110 volt LED 450 lumen light powered by an inverter with a 35 Amp hour battery; the same setup is used to illuminate the inside of the tent.
If a temporary floodlight is needed, to help the neighbors (has happened only once) I remove the light fixture globe and pop the plastic diffuser off the 450 lumen bulb.

                          Enjoy!

Ground tents work best for me, so far.
Experience along with properly set up 4WD will get you to & through places (on existing, approved 4WD trails) that 4WD, alone, can't get to.

The inflatable solar LEDs are nice lights. Not as strong as a coleman lantern. A nice soft light that doesnt blind ya as your wandering round your site. I am very much enamored with the new solar LEDs...i have a cpl that not only charge via sunlight OR 110 volts....they can also power/charge your phone. Way cool!
                            YMMV

They actually have 2 settings, low & high...battery drain is quicker on high of course. Again, wont be as bright as a coleman gas lantern, but they will surprise ya.
