  • Planning a trip to the UK

    Hello all,

I am planning a backpacking trip to the United Kingdom, but I am unfamiliar with their campsites. Have any of you backpacked through the UK and have any suggestions? Also are there any crazy fun attractions I should go to? I found these fun ones that I feel everyone should know about and eventually go to one day!

Thank you for the help, it takes a village!

I was jealous after just reading the title.
“I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.”

I've never hiked or camped in the UK but I'd look at the Lonely Planet's website as well as consider buying one of their books.
I've heard that the Lake District is beautiful but never been in that area.
      2017:

July 3 to July 16- annual kiddo trip
Aug 2 to Aug 14- adult trip to recover from kiddos' outing. Bring on the Campari!

Yeah. I know that camping and hiking is huge in the UK, but I don't know the specifics. If it were me (for a summer visit), I would do the Scottish Highlands. I've done driving trips around Scotland and it's amazing. The mountains around Ben Nevis rise 4000 feet directly from the seacoast. Awesome. The area slightly farther north around Loch Ness is also amazing.

The Lakes District is supposed to be the big hiking area in England.

Here are a couple of articles on the "top ten hikes" in the UK:

It sounds like a great adventure, if you can afford it. As a rule, prices for just about everything in England are about double what you will pay in the USA.
